We are pleased to announce that all customer-facing screens within our Knowledge module are now fully compliant with the latest edition of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). It meets our goals to make our customers’ experience smoother, more efficient and more inclusive.
Developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), WCAG is a set of internationally recognized standards that define how to make web content usable for people with disabilities. These guidelines cover a wide range of requirements, including providing alternative text for images, making content compatible with screen readers and ensuring proper keyboard navigation, among other aspects. Currently, WCAG 2.1 is the latest iteration of these guidelines.
It's about creating inclusive experiences that benefit everyone, including enhancing user experience, reaching a wider audience and demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity.
Experience Knowledge Like Never Before
Over the past year, we've been working hard to ensure everyone can use our Knowledge module effectively, regardless of their abilities. This latest update focuses on improving the experience for users who rely on screen readers and other assistive technologies.
Some of the major improvements our product team has worked on include:
- Enhanced Keyboard Navigation: Keyboard navigation has been implemented for previously inaccessible components, allowing users to navigate the platform efficiently without relying on a mouse.
- Clearer Communication: Interactive elements now provide consistent and clear announcements through screen readers. This includes checkboxes, buttons, input fields, and more. Users will hear the element's name, purpose, and current state, allowing them to interact with confidence.
- Standardized Announcements: Buttons, dropdowns, and other interactive form fields now follow a consistent announcement pattern. This makes it easier for users to understand the purpose and options available within each element.
Additionally, users can now use their keyboard and screen readers to explore and more easily navigate tree structures within the Knowledge module. We have also improved modal accessibility so users can hear the modal’s title and purpose, promoting more intuitive navigation.
The Benefits of Digital Accessibility Go Beyond Inclusion
These improvements are just the beginning of our commitment to making Knowledge accessible for everyone. Our goal is to create a better experience for everyone, including more empowered employees, more streamlined collaboration and more effective training through intuitive and accessible interfaces.
Some of our customers are already seeing great benefits from this accessibility. A top 5 U.S. bank is transforming its employee and customer experiences using comprehensive, multifaceted knowledge bases powered by OvationCXM. You can read more about how we are helping this enterprise here.
